There’s some good news and bad news about road projects.
The good news is that the Avery/Rings/Cara Court roundabout is scheduled to open on Friday, August 8th, as long as the weather cooperates. According to the City of Dublin Engineering Office, final pavement striping is still to be completed and that requires dry weather. The bad news is that Franklin County will be closing Cosgray Road for 45 days beginning on Monday, August 18th. The road will be closed just south of Churchman Road for ditch work.
Finishing touches on the roundabout, including street light installation and landscaping, will continue after the roundabout opens with everything completed before the end of the year. Having the roundabout open will also help during the Cosgray closure, since the preferred detour proposed by Franklin County is east on Rings to Avery to continue northbound.
Another bit of good news is that the City is working on a separate project to install a street light at the intersection of Rings, Pensworthy and Bonanza. According to the the City of Dublin Engineering Office, that may happen by year’s end.
The $6.2 million roundabout project will bring a bit of traffic relief and finally eliminate the dangerous Avery & Rings intersection. The project includes new sidewalks, a shared use path, a pedestrian bridge over Cramer Creek and street lighting. The bike path that runs along Rings Road has also been extended westward and now connects with Ballantrae.
The roundabout is considered an Interim Intersection Improvement project since the widening of Avery Road (and the Tuttle Crossing Blvd. extension) will not be happening in the near future. According to Paul Hammersmith, City of Dublin Director of Engineering, “the extension is not currently programmed in Dublin’s 5-Year Capital Improvements Program (CIP). The CIP is evaluated and updated annually and the (Tuttle) extension is always discussed as part of that update. Given the cost of the extension, the City of Dublin desires to have other agencies participate in funding the extension considering its regional benefit to the surrounding transportation network.”
The portion of Avery Road in the City of Columbus (from the CSX railroad tracks northward to Avery Run Road) is tentatively scheduled for widening beginning in the Fall of 2026 with completion in late 2028. Click here for details. The plan by the City of Dublin is to also widen the remaining 2-lane portion of Avery Road (just north of Avery Run to the new roundabout) at the same time as the City of Columbus completes their project, not waiting on the Tuttle Crossing Blvd. extension. The only piece of Avery still not widened after this project wraps up will be the small section from Corporate Center Drive/Blunden Road to just past Cramer’s Crossing Drive.
